Child Temperament

Children are born with unique and natural styles of interacting with or reacting to people, places, and things—their temperament.  Your child’s temperament will determine how he or she responds to your affections and demands. Your child’s temperament is will influence your approach to parenting.

Examples of temperament characteristics:

  • Activity level
  • Sensitivity
  • Regularity or routine
  • Caution
  • Adaptability
  • Mood
  • Intensity of personality
  • Persistance
  • Distractibility

While temperament never excuses a child’s disobedience or defiance, it does determine how you approach your child to correct these behaviors or attitudes.
